Last weekend while trying to treat myself to an oreo blizzard at Dairy Queen I realized that the DQ I was trying to find had been turned to a pile of dirt. Bummer. However, by some divine intervention, I turned my head and saw what I thought looked like an ice cream swirl. This is when I stumbled upon Menchie’s, located in the Eton shopping center on Chagrin Rd. If you haven’t heard of Menchie’s (I hadn’t), it’s a delightful make-your-own frozen yogurt mountain shop!
I venture in to find a large crowd of people huddled around frozen yogurt dispensers and toppings galore! I immediately prepared myself for battle by choosing the one-size-fits-all cup equipped with a waffle cone (you can also choose a cup without a cone) and dove right into the crowd.
Menchie’s has a rotating selection of eclectic frozen yogurt flavors…and they even give you the option to try as many as you want before choosing (perfect for us indecisive folk). Their flavors also include some vegan and sugar free options! I ended up going with a blend of vanilla, peanut butter, and apple pie. Trust me when I say this was not an easy decision.
After my frozen yogurt selection it was time for toppings! Oh so many toppings! They have every type of nut you can think of, all types of candy (including white chocolate!), hot fudge, graham crackers, cookies, and fruit. The fruit also happens to be fresh and locally grown…quite the bonus in my book! I had to stick with my favorite oreo topping and then added some graham cracker crumbs, pretzels, and fresh strawberries.
Some recommendations if you plan on visiting this delightful shop…you are charged by the weight of your masterpiece! So don’t let your eyes be bigger than your stomach J Also, think carefully about your combinations – while my creation was quite tasty when I picked at the flavors individually, it was….what’s the word I’m looking for? …Interesting …when I tried to mix them together.
